The wait was long, but the results are stunning. Glass Gem Corn is annual flint corn that requires full sun. The kernels may be ground into cornmeal flour. The most gorgeous translucent, jewel-coloured ears, each unique, can also be dried and used for decoration year after year.

A stunning variety selected over many years by Carl Barnes, a part-Cherokee farmer and breeder from Oklahoma. Selected from crossing several traditional corn varieties and saving seed from the vivid, translucent kernels. I have saved my favourite ears, with dark kernels to share with you. Grow the rainbow! 

Growing Instructions: Soak the seeds for 24 hours before planting and ensure the soil is warm. Best planted in blocks rather than a single row. Will produce slender 3-8” ears. Plant after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed, or start indoors and transplant out.
